Oh, falling in love for the first time. There’s nothing quite like that feeling of being on cloud nine because you’ve just met the most amazing, attractive, incredible person in the world! They’re so funny, smart, and unbelievable fun to be around! That 2 hour coffee date felt like 10 minutes. You simply must tell all of your friends about how your new boyfriend/girlfriend is completely flawless. Falling in love feels good every time it happens, but as with all experiences, it becomes less and less intense as it loses its novelty. But at least you always have memories of the first time you fell in love, right? Here are five experiences we can all relate to when we fell in love for the first time back in our middle school or high school days.
Butterflies
As soon as you realize there is a spark between the two of you, you start to feel the butterflies. Just thinking about them brings these emotions, as does looking at photos of them. And when you’re sitting on a bench next to them? Oh, by. You start looking at the little details. Their facial features, their neck, their body. You feel a sense of excitement and nervousness about the possibilities. What would it feel like to kiss them? Oh my God, they’re reaching to take my hand! They’re making deep eye contact and it’s making you feel wobbly. You never forget this feeling no matter how much time goes by. It feels vaguely terrifying, but oh so wonderful at the same time!
An overflow of emotions
Once you’ve fallen in love, you become completely flooded with emotions. You might even begin to emit little red hearts, like in those old timey cartoons. You feel so much happiness and satisfaction when your partner arrives for the date. You have conversations that seem to confirm you are compatible. But with these happy feelings comes some of the negative ones. There’s a lot of nervousness and fear. What if you say something stupid? What if he/she stands you up? Do they have other crushes? Are they in love with you as much as you are with them? Are you going to lose them at the moment when you thought the relationship was secure? There’s nothing quite like love that makes you feel all of these emotions at once.
The world will revolve around your love
When you fall in love for the first time, the only thing you want is to be by his or her side. They are the complete center of your universe; your whole reason for existing. Time seems to stand still when you look into their eyes. You can’t imagine being with anybody else because you are so compatible. Every conversation is interesting. Even their quirky habits are endearing. You could be in a room with 100 other people, but it’s like none of them even exist. It’s just the two of you.
You are in your comfort zone
A little bit of time has passed. You’re still at the stage where you’re madly in love, but you’ve also reached a comfort level and settled into a wonderful routine. You no longer worry that they will dump you out of the blue. There is stability. You are finally introducing them to your best friends. You might even be getting to the point where they can meet the parents for the first time. Your partner showers you with love and you feel you can tell them everything without worrying about what they’ll think of you. They are your equal half.
The feeling of infinity and beyond
You’ve spent enough time with the person to genuinely feel that maybe they are The One. You can’t imagine anything coming between the two of you. You might have had your first lover’s quarrel, but found ways to get over it. Your friends and family like him/her, and now you’re dreaming about a future together. You might not be at the point where the words “will you marry me” make their way in the picture, but nonetheless you make it clear that this person completes you.
